Out of the corner of my eye, I catch something moving by the barn.

When I look, it disappears. Wait. There it is again, at the cornfield.

Some movement, some thing.

Mom and I have been on the run for years. Every time he catches up with us, we move to a new place and start over.

But this place is different.

This place is full of secrets. And they won’t leave me alone.

I stumbled upon this book in an e-mail that provided the first few chapters of this book.  I was hooked so I had to find out what was going to happen next!

The Dogs is an amazing paranormal thriller that will have you turning pages fast!  Cameron and his mom have been on the run for several years from his dad.  Always keep themselves ‘off the grid’ so he can’t ‘hunt’ them down but somehow he always finds them.

They finally settle in an isolated farmhouse where Cameron starts to see and hear things that aren’t possible. Soon he’s questioning everything he thought he knew and even thinking he is becoming crazy like his dad.  The kids at school have been telling Cameron stories about murders and a pack of wild dogs that have lived in the farm house.  Is this why he is seeing the ghost of a boy?  Is this why he is hearing dogs howling in the woods? Is he truly going crazy?

This book will give you chills.  The authors writing was excellent!  I would love to read more from Allan Stratton, he has a true talent of making your blood run cold with excitement and mystery!  This is a highly recommended read!

Huge thank you to the author for sending me her book for review!  I found Emily on goodreads.com and the cover art of this book really caught my eye.  Emily will be featured in the month of August and I will be doing an interview with her, so keep an eye out! 🙂

Like I said, the cover caught my eye right in the beginning.  I don’t typically judge books by their covers, but do have to say, if the cover catches my eye, I’m going to pick it up and see what it’s all about!  So glad I got my paws on this one!

The story starts us out with meeting the main character, Joy Humbolt.  She feels like she is at a dead end job working for a little coffee shop.  On this particular day we meet Joy, she has just told off a customer and her boss, landing her with being fired, leaving Joy sort of on the happy side.

It’s been a long few days for Joy, she lost her job, broke up with her boyfriend and adopts a dog named Blue.  When an opportunity is presented to take over a dog-walking business for upper-crust clients, it’s as though it is to good to be true.  As we find out in the story, it is.  Joy gets caught up in a murder investigation that will literally change her life. Joy’s curiosity get’s the best of her and she starts investigating the situation on her own.  Someone wants Joy out of the picture, but she and Blue are not going down without a fight.

This story was very well written and kept me wanting to turn the page to find out what happens next.  Joy’s character was wonderful.  Learning new little bits of information that she finds out, keeps Joy struggling to understand what she has gotten herself into.

There are plenty of twists and turns that will keep you wanting more!  I especially loved the ending, but I will not spoil it for any of you!  This is the first book in the Sydney Rye series, if you like a good crime mystery then you will love this!
